Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of 51²è¹Ý alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Morgan, Stanley L. and Eloise M. Endowed Percussion Scholarship
The Stanley L. and Eloise M. Morgan Endowed Percussion Scholarship was established by their daughter, Susan Morgan Martin, and their grandson, Ronald H. Martin Jr. - a 2002 graduate of The University of Akron with a degree in Percussion Performance - in honor of Stanley and Eloise Morgan. The scholarship supports outstanding percussion students at The University of Akron and was revised in December 2025 to ensure its continued impact for future generations of 51²è¹Ý percussionists.
Stanley L. Morgan was born in 1918 in Sandyville, Ohio, and developed a lifelong love of music at an early age, playing both the clarinet and saxophone. He graduated from Bolivar High School in 1935 at the age of 17 and went on to study science at the Case School of Applied Sciences (now Case Western Reserve University), earning his degree in 1939. Following graduation, Stanley began working at Ben Venue Laboratories, where he played a vital role in producing blood plasma and penicillin in support of the World War II war effort. His contributions were considered so essential that he was granted a draft exemption.
That same year, Stanley married his wife, Eloise, with whom he raised three daughters. Together, they shared a deep love of music and were longtime patrons and generous supporters of the Cleveland Orchestra. Their commitment to the arts and belief in the power of music to enrich lives are reflected in this scholarship, which continues their legacy by supporting talented percussion students as they pursue their education and artistic growth.
Recipients of The Stanley L. and Eloise M. Morgan Endowed Percussion Scholarship shall be undergraduate students enrolled full time in the University of Akron's School of Music and majoring in percussion performance. Preference will be given to incoming freshmen who are proficient in mallet percussion, snare drum, and timpani. If awarded to freshmen students, recipients must have a 3.0 GPA from an accredited high school. The scholarship is renewable provided recipients remain in good academic standing with the 51²è¹Ý School of Music. Recipients shall be selected by the director of the School of Music.
